If you are a vegetarian, come to one of the famous vegetarian festivals
in the South. It is believed this is the time to purify the soul and
the mind by refraining from meat consumption. This festival is believed
to be the tradition imported into Thailand by Chinese immigrants.
In this festival, you will see how believers gather to help clean
out the spirit shrine, lighting candle to prepare for the arrival
of nine angels. There will be a ceremony to welcome Yok Ong Song Te
and request the presence of the nine angles. To symbolise the presence
of the sacred throughout the 9-day festival, nine lanterns are to
be lit up and placed aloft a Ko Teng pole.
In the evening of the sixth day of the waxing moon, there will
be a goddess procession in which media of supernatural power is
presented. Join the process to offer the laymen the divine kindness.
On the last day, there will be another goddess procession. Along
the road where the procession passes by, people will extend their
gods special altar offerings and firecrackers.
